I was connected through a headhunter agency, spoke on the phone with the CDO, then in person for a panel interview with the CDO, Executive Director and Director of HR. Waited for 4 weeks for the offer, then started in a 3 month, temporary capacity, paid hourly, which was extended. The CDO at the time was highly energetic & PR oriented; current CDO is calmer and a bit more business mindset. The Executive Director an intellectual, with 30+ years experience in this field and an openness to combining the non-profit sensibility with a business approach. The HR director is a nice enough man, and seemed to perform a gate-keeper and administrative role, more than an issue substantive role.
You'll have greater success if your approach is of calm respect (over your issue or process expertise) to HR, a mix of both to the ED, and you can share your energy and expertise with the CDO.
