I was contacted via LinkedIn by the recruiter about this role. After initially suggesting that it was too junior based on my experience and current position, he noted that this was a first of its kind role in the US and they were looking for this role to take a leadership role with serious potential for growth quickly. Due to the high pay range being offered and confirmed by the recruiter, I agreed to interview for the role. At every stage of the process, everyone asked about why I applied for the role since I appeared to be more experienced than the role required. I answered respectfully each time but was confused as to why they were not communicating about this internally between rounds. All rounds had positive outcomes so they requested I complete a case study presentation. Due to a planned vacation, I had to carve out time to prepare the presentation as well as cut my trip short to attend the presentation in line with the availabilty of the session participants (at the request and encouragement of the recruiter). I even incorporated some suggestions at the last minute from the recruiter based on what he says were wanted slides by the hiring committee. During the presentation, the hiring manager, who I had already interviewed with, stayed mostly quiet as the other attendee asked me yet again why I applied to this role that seemed to be junior for my experience level. Again, I politely explained the situation. Quite frustrating. After the presentation I was ignored for 3 weeks by the recruiter and ultimately received a stock firm email that I wouldn’t be moving forward in the process. I requested feedback from the process and was ghosted. All-in, there were four rounds and a case study presentation required. While the people were nice, it appeared that my experience level may have intimidated the presentation session participants (their experiences appeared to be limited for their current roles) enough to decide I wasn’t a good fit. Process took about 5 weeks without the 3 week wait for final decision. Negative overall experience due to all of the issues I noted and the ghosting and weeks of waiting .
