I interviewed for the Senior Account Management position at Affirm and found the experience somewhat misaligned with the level of the role.
The interview was conducted with the recruiter’s camera off, which created a more transactional and less engaged dynamic than I would typically expect for a relationship-focused position. At a senior commercial level, initial interactions often set the tone for partnership and collaboration, so this stood out.
During the discussion, there appeared to be limited familiarity with core payments industry structures and processes. As a result, parts of the conversation lacked depth and did not fully reflect the complexity or strategic scope associated with managing and growing a portfolio in fintech.
When asked about my interest in the role, I outlined my intention to evolve from a predominantly sales-led remit into a strategic account management focus centred on long-term portfolio growth and value creation. While this transition is a natural progression within commercial leadership, it did not seem to fully resonate.
Affirm is clearly a strong brand within the market; however, the interview experience did not reflect the level of preparation, industry fluency, or executive alignment I would expect for a senior appointment.
