Shortly after I applied for the position at Agile IT, I was contacted by email outlining the application and entire hiring process. 1. The Assessment: I was sent a link to an online assessment to complete as the preliminary part of the application process. The assessment took about 30 minutes to complete, and was comparable to a mini-ACT with word problems, pattern recognition, math, etc. Once completed, I received an automated email confirming my completion and that my submission is under review. 2. The phone interview: The first round phone interview was just to gauge my overall technical knowledge, soft skills, and for me to hear a little bit more about the company. I was put in a fictional scenario and asked how I would handle it from a support perspective both with communication skills and technical skills. It was a basic screening call to make sure I am who I say I am. 3. The second phone interview: After the first call, I was sent an email notifying me that I had made it to the next round and they would like to schedule a second call with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was much more in depth and technical, as we dug in and talked about my experience and whether it would suffice for the role. This phone interview was also meant to be challenging. The topics ranged from where current knowledge level was to topics I may not be as familiar with, and finding out where exactly the midway point is between those. 4. The final in-person interview: About 10 days after the second phone interview, I received an invitation for a final in-person interview. The panel was 3 people, 2 of whom I had already spoken with. We went down the list on my resume from new to old, discussing my work and education experience. It was a mixture of technical and soft skills, as to be expected. It seemed as though the in-person interview was intended to gauge comfort levels and keep the interviewee thinking on their feet, which was also to be expected. My thoughts: The overall application process felt very orderly and professional. It was well outlined and I knew what to expect at each step and moving forward. My only concern during the hiring process was the length of time between communication and interviews. Steps 1-3 were completed within about 10 days of application submission. The timespan between my second phone interview and the in-person interview was 25 days apart leaving me to question the status of my application at times. After discussing this with the folks here after I was hired, I understood why. The former hiring process had burned them in the past by hiring underqualified people, or just those not a good fit for the company culture. They reviewed the process and added the automated test, as well as the scheduling assistant which assists further with screening and hiring quality employees. Compared to other companies I had applied to during that time, I didn’t think the process was any more or less complicated.
