I had a recruiter from a staffing firm initially reach out to me on LinkedIn regarding a sales position at Aisera. I spoke with him first and he provided me with high-level details of what Aisera was looking for. Afterward that initial conversation, I interviewed with multiple individuals from the executive team. All, except one, were great conversations. Early on, I was extremely excited about the opportunity and the company as well. As the process continued, multiple reg flags presented themselves: 1) they asked me to put together a list of 50 accounts in SoCal, including customer names/contact info/company, to see who I would target and how big my "Rolodex" was--I consulted with the recruiter as I felt this was extremely unprofessional. The recruiter agreed and they ended up changing the request to giving them 25 accounts, minus contact info. I was still hesitant but ended up completing this request. Then, I spoke to the CEO and immediately was turned off by him. We had a video call and he sat in a conference room on his laptop not even facing me or looking me in the eye. He would glance over to ask me a question and then would turn back to his computer and start typing away. It was obvious he wasn't paying attention or listening or taking notes from what I was saying. Knowing he is a busy guy at a startup company, i gave him the benefit of the doubt and pressed on. After the convo, the next steps were for me to build a presentation and deliver it to the broader team. The expectations were CLEAR--present Aisera to us as if we were a customer who had never heard of Aisera before. The CEO commented, "there's plenty of information out there to pull from and find out about Aisera". At this time, the company was still in stealth mode so there was very little info and I had to assume a lot about their platform. Regardless, I collectively spent about 25 hours building the presentation and even spent my own money to purchase a PowerPoint template (because the one they had was embarrassing and there was no way I would put that in front of executives ). About 3/4 of the way thru the presentation, the CEO interrupted me saying "this isn't what we were looking for". I paused, asking what their expectations were... his response, "we wanted you to present how you would have sold Aisera, not as if we were a customer directly". I'm assuming he meant present my sales process.. which had already been discussed. It's obvious, to me at least, that he had forgotten what he asked me to do and made up new requirements during the presentation that were different than the original request. Extremely unprofessional. I don't doubt that the CEO is a successful entrepreneur but it is obvious he is not a great leader and, based on my experience with him, he is unashamed of that fact. He is interested in building a company and selling it off. Lastly, at the end of that presentation, he hit me with "are you willing to move for this position?". That had NOT been discussed previously and was a complete surprise to me. In fact, I followed up with the recruiting firm afterwards and even they DID NOT know about Aisera wanting people to move. I heard later the recruiting firm ended up no longer helping them because of the lack of communication. I ended up emailing the CEO the next day and professionally said I'm not interested in this position and respectfully removed my name from consideration. Such a terrible experience for what could be a great company.
