The process took over 6 weeks and I put a lot of time and effort just for Aiven to pick someone with "more experience". The first stage was a screening call with HR - she was very nice and told me general things about the company. It was a positive experience. Took around 20-25 mins. Next stage was an interview with the finance team (the hiring manager and another colleague). They asked more in-depth questions about finance and my experience. Some behavioral questions as well. And they also told me more about finance team and we had some casual talk as well. Overall, it went well because I already had two years of experience and had done the job responsibilities in my previous and current roles. Took 45-50 mins. The third stage is a home test. No time limit but they wanted it to be done within a week or so. It was like an easy accounting homework from my university. However, it still takes like an hour or more to complete everything perfectly. The final stage was an 1-hour interview with VP Finance and Accounting Operations Manager. At this point, I feel that the process is extremely long already. And why would we need an interview with such "big" managers. There are quite many people in the finance team though so I don't think I would work with VP Finance on a daily basis. Overall, it still went well and they gave no additional comment about my home-test cause they thought it was very good already. I thought that I would receive an offer soon as everything went well. But HR kept postponing when I asked her for update. Probably not her fault though as finance team still needed more time to discuss. At that point I was frustrated because it took so much time and efforts and I still needed to wait. And then on Monday, they said "While we found your background and passion very impressive, we decided to continue with a candidate that has a bit more hands-on experience in the field within a relevant industry." Very bad experience of the hiring process in my opinion. If they think that I don't have enough experience, they could have just eliminated me in the first stage or second stage to save both their and my time. Of course, if I only have two years of experience and there is someone with 3-4 years, clearly everyone knows which one to pick. Such a long hiring process in my opinion :(
