Dodged a bullet.
I had a phone interview with HR and it went well. Interviewed on a Friday. At the conclusion of the interview, I was told I would be contacted to have a second interview with the supervisor for the position or someone else on the team no "later than Wednesday" HR even told me that she would assist me in interview prep before I met with the supervisor. HR requested I email a writing sample when our call ended. I did.
Fast forward to Wednesday, crickets. On Friday, I followed up via email. After not hearing from HR for about 10 days after that, I called; no answer. I left a voicemail. No call back.
I followed up again via email a few days later.
HR finally called me back and informed me she was on vacation for 10 days but they decided not to move forward with my application because my salary requirements required them to request a higher position/rate. I politely informed HR that according to my notes, my salary requirements were $X - $X, which aligned with the posted range for the salary. In response, HR seemed confused, said they may have mistaken me for another applicant, and informed me she would follow up.
After another week went by, I emailed requesting a follow up, and a few days later HR informed me that they already fulfilled the position.
First, it was clear after being ghosted for weeks that, despite HR's assurances, I was not going to moving forward in the interview process, but they dragged me along anyways. Second, I wouldn't want to work for an employer who either (1) got me confused with someone else or just wasn't listening when I stated my salary requirements, or (2) lied about why they weren't moving forward with my application.
Glad this happened. Hope it doesn't happen to someone else.
