Pretty standard fare, 1-2 days after applying, I received a request to schedule an HR screening call. It was rather impersonal and they were reading from a script.
About 2 weeks later, I had an in-person interview at a local office. Both men were nice and very professional. This was another scripted affair. They weren't too interested in my resume (15 years experience for the position). Instead, Allstate uses a questionnaire that was developed by a team of psychologists. These aren't new for some people (explain a time when you went above and beyond the scope of your duties to help someone), but they were pretty onerous. Some questions seem particularly designed to confuse and induce stress so that the interviewers can observe your response.
In the end, my experience didn't matter. Despite being very professional and admitting I was having trouble answering some questions, they must have picked up on the fact that the interview questions were off-putting, and they passed. I told this to Allstate employees who were colleagues of mine, and they were shocked.
