      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ally Financial in Aug 2022

      Interview

Contacted by recruiter on LinkedIn, who shared title and JD. I expressed my interest in learning more, but explained I was also speaking with other companies. He was impressed with my extensive auto finance industry and analytics experience, so he encouraged me to go ahead and apply for the role and set up phone screen. Phone call went well, so he scheduled call with hiring manager. Met with hiring manager a few days later. Sounded like the role was very similar to what I was already doing, and we had good rapport. Heard back from recruiter that they wanted to move forward and have me talk to the Dept head. Recruiter was great about staying in touch throughout process and even expedited things when I told him I received another offer. Still, he warned me that the new mgmt insisted on doing a live P&L business case, even though it had nothing to do with the job I was interviewing for. Got a call from an interview coordinator that they were able to fast track the process and get me an interview that same day with Dept head and that it would be my last one, as they knew I had an offer in hand with another company. A few hours later, I met with the Dept head, who proceeded to take me through a P&L business case. Again, only second real interview with someone in the group I would be working in, and I had several years of experience in auto finance & analytics, but he wanted to spend the time grilling me over a random credit card P&L business case. SMH Thought I did a decent job on the business case. Spoke to original recruiter again, who said he would get back to me with feedback. Weekend goes by and I hadn’t heard back from recruiter yet, so I reached out and told him I needed to make a decision and get back to other company that had extended me an offer, so he said he would try to track the Dept head down to get feedback. A day or so went by and still crickets, so I reached out again and recruiter apologized for delay. Remember - they were the ones who contacted me about the oppy. Recruiter was doing all he could to move process forward and be sensitive to my schedule and need to make a decision. Finally, later that day, on a Tues, he called me and said only thing he was able to get out of Dept head was that he had decided to go a different direction. I can only assume it had something to do with the business case. Recruiter apologized again and expressed his frustration with the process. I had told him I had reservations about doing the case interview, since it had nothing to do with the role, and he said other candidates had same issues and experience, so he was going to make sure negative feedback was shared, but unfortunately nothing he could do at this point. I told him I would have to accept other offer and thanked him for all of his support and communication throughout the process.
