I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in Oct 2016
Interview
First they send you an online interview link where you record yourself answering questions (you are not given the questions ahead of time) such as: what is alpha sights, how does it relate to your career path, etc. pretty straightforward). Then you do a skype interview with a recruiter. My interview was scheduled for 30 minutes but I was grilled for an hour. After half an hour the recruiter was kicked out of the interview space and said she had more questions so she had to find somewhere else while I was on the video (very unprofessional). Be prepared to answer BREAD and what it is, know it left and right. When I was asked questions my recruiter would challenge my answers, which was really annoying. If you get past that you get invited to the New York office (I assume this is the same wherever you apply). Interview is two parts, the first is a case study. You describe BREAD again and then are given 15 minutes and 3 scenarios. You have to choose two. In each scenario (examples of situations clients would come to you with), you have to find two people that you would theoretically connect your client with. Having to find 4 relevant executives in 15 minutes is a lot to expect...isn't Alpha Sights supposed to be teaching us how to do that? Doing a google search of the Board of Directors of a large company is hardly a competitive advantage... Then they grill you on why you chose that person and ask you questions that no one in college knows the answer to. For instance, if you want to connect your client to someone in marketing they ask you who you would connect them to...without knowing the corporate structure of the company it's very difficult to label the position. The second part of the interview is your typical interview where they ask about your resume. You have to do a sample phone call pretending you have the names of people to connect your clients with (names that you decided on in the first part of the interview). On the fake phone call the "client" (interviewer) asked me how much I will charge him. When the fake call ended my interviewer expected me to justify that number...I am not a consultant or a pricing analyst nor do I know what the market rate is for a service like this is, how is a college student supposed to know this? I interviewed for a research role I should not be expected to know the rates nor is the public information that I could have looked up ahead of time. Interviewer was so condescending. I guessed $1,000 (after all, we're asking C level executives for an hour of their time and inside information). The correct answer is around $100 dollars.
Fast response time though and they pay for your travel if you are from far away. Overall the company has no competitive advantage. Associates are doing google searches and making cold calls all day. They claim the hours are 8-8 which is ridiculous...this isn't a well known company or reputable bank. No room for growth and high turnover rate.

Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. why I want to move my job
2. what's my long-term goal
Interview process was ok, several stages and language test as it was a particular language speaking role, only downside really was very little feedback given at the end when not successful. When I asked for a feedback call as to why I wasn’t successful they didn’t answer my question and it was a 2 mins call saying that I was just unsuccessful.
