I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at AlphaSights (Tokyo) in Jan 2019
Interview
The process took about 2 months. Started off great...ended not so great:
1. Video interview where you record a response to a randomly generated list of questions.
2. A fit interview with a member of the client service team; about 45 minutes
3. Case Study interview (about an hour); Language Test (to determine my language skills as I was applying to one of the Asia offices); interview with a manager from the office I was interested in (also about an hour)
4. Final interview with Regional Head; 2 hours; very intense round with a relentless questioning of your background, your career aspirations, etc. Essentially another fit interview, but a LOT more rigorous than the first one I did.
Overall, it was an okay experience. Compared to the other companies I am interviewing with, AlphaSights was a lot more casual, which sometimes came off as unprofessional. Their rejection email was an automated email they send to applicants who didn’t even make it into the interview round—which was really upsetting because I have been in this process for 2 months and have been interviewed by 5 different people. It would have been nice to get the right rejection email at least!
Note: It felt that having a very very close alignment to the company’s pre-existing cultural values is crucial—did not seem particularly receptive to a diverse range of values at the work place. So appetite for money making and helping corporations grow is key. I was more interested in the process of knowledge search and the experience of client service work, as I come from a researcher background, but that is not what they are looking for. Which was interesting because I was expecting a more creative, startup-like atmosphere.
Easy and transparent with steps and timeline. Took about 2 weeks from start to offer but flexible with timing of interviews, you make times mostly, with final round as exception
questions about resume and applicability to the role, also asked what other roles i’m recruiting for. didn’t get a second interview but i wasn’t too enthusiastic —- wish I’d rehearsed my answers to why Alphasights before
