      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in Jan 2020

      Interview

The first stage is an online one-way video response interview. It is very quick and simple. The next stage is a Google Hangout video call with someone in the office you applied for. It's pretty straight forward and you just go over your resume and what you know about the company. Make sure to study the BREAD process- they ask for each step of it and expect for you to be able to explain it. After progressing to the in person interview, they ask you to come to the office you applied for. This is a two-hour long interview with two separate interviewers in a private conference room. The first hour was with a manager. We quickly went over my resume and then you are given a prompt where you are able to choose two out of three options. You have 15 minutes and are given a laptop to complete the task. They ask that you find two professionals to match the client with and have a thorough explanation of why you chose them. Then, the manager explains what changes you can make in your choices and asks what you would choose otherwise/why. The next hour is with a VP and focuses more on your experience and behavioral. You also have to explain to them what changes you made in the case study and why. Then, you have a mock "phone call" that is face-to-face. The in-person interview is enjoyable and it was nice to be able to see the office in person. A few days later, I was emailed to set up an interview with an executive level VP over Google Hangout. This was the part that really took a turn in the process for me. He was nice and acted fairly casual/made jokes but VERY much focused on the fact that I did not go to an ivy league school (he did). Also asked why I thought that I could make it in NYC since I wasn't from a huge city. It was slightly degrading and he asked a lot of behavioral questions. Also really quizzed about the resume looking for any errors and questioning dates that you obviously should have/would have gone over at this point. I was very iffy after this stage of the interview.

      Interview questions [5]

      Question 1

How many people do you interact with at work on a daily basis? If I were to put all of them in a room and ask them to write down your qualities, what do you think the biggest misconception would be?
      Answer question

      Question 2

If I were to call your current boss and ask what their concerns were about you being hired for this position, what would they say?
      Answer question

      Question 3

What makes you think that you can compete with coworkers that are the "top 10% of people and have been given basically every opportunity they've wanted their whole lives"?
      Answer question

      Question 4

What kind of jobs have you mainly applied for? If you could have any job that you've applied for, other than this one, which position would you accept? Then, quizzed me on why and asked why I wasn't focusing more on that realm of work.

      Question 5

Who did you speak to at your interview at the office?
