Screening phone call with the recruiter then 2 phone interviews with 2 research scientists. Basic modeling questions and few questions about Amazon. After that, invited for on-site loop which consisted of an hour long presentation to a panel, and 5 one to one interviews with various people including hiring manager, research scientists and software engineers. The day before the interview I had to fly for 13+ hours to arrive to Seattle and had 0 time to get any rest and clear my head. The meetings were basically non-stop with only tiny breaks to re-fill water and use the restroom. There was a very fast lunch break which it was not supposed to be interview but do NOT believe that. The on-site loop was tough because basically you do not stop for 7-8 hours and you constantly move from room to room. A LOT of behavioral questions from different people, some of them sound identical (I do not know if that was intentional and, if yes, should I suppose to give different answers? Why would I give different answers to SAME questions?) and some are very vague and the interviewer does not give any hint on what exactly they are asking. Basically 60% of the time is non-stop behavioral questions and the interviewer is typing on the laptop like a demon which is VERY distracting and then simply READING the questions which makes the whole process sound like interrogation. Very bad feeling. The technical part is relatively easy but is also easy to block in parts you already know. The day after the interview I received an email saying that they will let me know within 5 days after which they called me to simply say that the hiring team decided not to move forward. They could simply send an email, I wouldn't mind, I do not get why you have to schedule a 20 seconds call for that. I find it funny that everything evolves around leadership principles and potential candidates are so heavily judged upon them, but is their right to have their own criteria. All-in-all I find it a mixed experience. They rely heavily on their principles even for research scientist positions, which is OK, but some (not all) interviewers make it seem like an interrogation, reading out loud pre-formed questions, without any hint of dialog or interest in the answers, which is extremely discouraging. Also ,be warned: even if they say "Research Scientist" they do 0 research which is (very) disappointing especially if you come with a strong academic background.
