      Customer Service Specialist Interview

      Jul 25, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Saint Louis, MO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Ameren (Saint Louis, MO) in Jul 2018

      Interview

The process moved very fast. I applied online and was contacted to take the 3 hour assessement test 2 days later. This test had a fair amount of math and questions on how to read meters and calculate incorrect bills based on the wrong meter readings. They give you the results same day. After I passed the test, I was contacted by the recruiter for an phone interview. The phone interwas was on a Monday. The phone interview lasted about 30 mins, at that time the recruiter discussed the salary, hours, shifts, and what to expect during the face to face interview. We scheduled the face to face interview for the next day, Tuesday. She also shared the start date of the next training class (Aug 6th) and how excited she was for my interview. They wanted to have offers out by the end of the week (Friday.) The face to face interview was in the same building the test was given. The interview format was STAR... Very standard and familiar to most people interviewing. The 2 managers who interviewed me where dress casual and one even wore flip flops.... One manger was new to Ameren (3 months) and other had worked there for 6 years. The manger that had worked there for 6 years shared we had similar work history both working in call centers for cable companies. Just some personal background on myself, I am degreed, well dressed, professional, articulate, and prepared for STAR method in interview questions with over 10+ years in customer service and sales experience. But it ALWAYS a bad sign when the person interviewing you sounds less educated that who they are potentially hiring. They asked 4 questions, I answered each one in the proper format: Situation, Action, Result etc... I also included examples of my background and how my experience could be beneficial in this new role. In other words, I did great on my interview. However, It was not great enough to get the job. I'm not sure what candidate they selected. I was more than qualified for this position, But employment with Ameren ultimately comes down to if the uneducated, unprofessional manager likes you.... That’s it. Not being qualified, well spoken, answering questions properly… or any of the other things we are trained for during the interview process. I interviewed on Tuesday and received and declined email stating they selected other candidates on Friday. I called the recruiter to get feedback on what I could have possibility done wrong, and her reply was they were looking for a very specific person for this role.
