I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at American Express (Austin, TX) in Feb 2016
Interview
Half hour interview via career fair with two people, one asking behavioral questions and the other technical questions. Within a couple days I was invited to Super Day for a second round of interviews. The first Super Day interview was 1:1 with a person who just talked about how Amex is very bureaucratic the entire time. Then there were two hacking sessions, one alone and one with a group. Each group was supervised and my group's supervisor started by saying that the earlier group she watched was so amazing that we wouldn't be able to impress her and then she walked away. At the end, we toured the facility and the guides said they didn't really enjoy working there and complained about the campus. It was an odd day.
