I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at American Express (Brighton, England) in Feb 2018
Interview
I applied online and I provided my CV, a cover letter and completed an online numerical skills test.
A week or two later I was scheduled for a video interview with a HR manager. This was done to be done using WebEx, but due to technical problems, I had to have my interview by phone instead. The HR manager was chuffed I was at Oxford, so spent most of the interview of talking with little required from me.
I was invited to an assessment centre in Brighton a week later. We were given accommodation, met people on their grad scheme and had a meal with other employees the night before. The assessment centre had a group task and one 1:1, non-technical interview. The group task was to implement a basic payment/accounting system according to a spec we were given. For the interviewer, the interviewers were satisfied I had enough technical experience, so spent it asking me for examples of leadership, teamwork and good communication.
HR told me my outcome a week later and gave me feedback on my application.
This was my first assessment centre and one of my first job interviews, so naturally I didn't do very well. HR was helpful throughout and kept me well-informed.
