      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at American Express (Phoenix, AZ) in Nov 2021

      Interview

The recruiters were very helpful and quick to address my concerns. However, the interview with the hiring manager was entirely unprofessional. I’ll start by saying, I can see why corporate America is having trouble attracting and retaining talent these days. This hiring manager shared with me he’s been with American Express for 25 years. I have previously been employed with American Express and they are all about diversity and their Blue Box values. Well, the company is. This was a video interview and he didnt wait for me to turn on my video camera before getting started. He never asked me to introduce myself. There was only one person and I was told there would be two. Not only did he seem rushed, but he alluded to wanting someone younger when he said he wasn’t looking for someone with years of experience. I have years of work experience but I am new to technology having recently graduated from a coding boot camp. Being a company that values diversity means hiring and training “older” candidates, particularly women, and American Express values diversity. Being experienced does not mean you are not creative or teachable. He was close to my age and should know this. He also mentioned the difficulty he’s having filling this position. Perhaps, that’s because he isn’t recognizing potential and transferable skills. Maybe his biases are sabotaging his search. He cut the interview off at around 18 minutes. Needless to say, I am disappointed and irritated that my time preparing for this interview was wasted and that a company like Amex would treat a candidate so poorly.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at American Express (Winter Park, FL) in Feb 2022

      Interview

I initially was approached by a recruited about the position I applied for via email and right away they set up a zoom call with the hiring manager. I thought the Interview went so well, but it has been more than a month and they never got back to me with a status update. I also emailed asking what the status was and that I enjoyed meeting everyone, but no one responded. A month later I was approached about another position I applied for and I explained to the recruiter my previous experience and she assured me that wouldn’t happen again we had a phone call and she seem very confident I was the right candidate for the position, but once again she never reached out again with an update. I was left with a really bad impression.
