I interviewed at Anaplan (San Francisco, CA) in May 2015
Interview
Hiring manager spent a short time discussion my background and then wanted to know what big companies in the area I could open doors into, then implied that once the door is open the product sells itself. Ended the call by agreeing on a day to meet. Call from recruiter next morning that my background was not a fit.
Note: The recruiter was very nice and did a thorough job explaining the company, the role and the hiring manager's expectation.

Question 1
Describe a bad work situation, and how you solved it.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Anaplan (Düsseldorf) in Aug 2025
Interview
I was contacted by the recruiter with an appropriate and enticing message, so I agreed to a first call. After the call, we decided to continue the process and a call was set with global divisional manager. In total I spoke with 6 people, all of which I would be working with should I join. While some people might be put off by this amount of calls, I very much appreciated the calls as I could gauge the people I would be working with. The interviews were more of an open discussion (greatly appreciated) and not following some general pathway. The product/market for this sales position is in a niche market and as I have a good amount of experience in the market, the discussion gravitated to the subject matter. Thus, for the interview difficulty I only put average but that is because I have the industry knowledge - without that knowledge it would have been a very difficult process.
The recruiter (Mark W.) was very proactive - informing about next steps, providing feedback, asking for feedback and so on. I always felt I was in good hands with him and because the process went so smooth, it was one of the reasons I decided to join the company.
