I was sent a text message that my resume was approved for an interview and I interviewed through Microsoft Teams chat. Pretty simple questions and got the job offer for a remote position on the spot. I accepted, but upon doing so, I have ended up in a similar situation as other people reviewing their interview/ hiring process. It has all became very suspicious and seems like a scam. I got a check in the mail for equipment I’ll be needing at home. Unfortunately for me, I deposited it as instructed and now all the transactions are extremely sus. Supposedly I have to send the money to the vendors of the supplies I’ll be needing, but all the emails and info for sending the money seem very sus. The emails seem like spam emails and the check wasn’t even from the company itself. A lot of contacting a bunch of random and sus people all of a sudden. It has made my account go on a lock, thankfully my bank is quick on security, but it’s still frustrating that now I gotta call them to unfreeze my account and now I just want out. I don’t trust it at all, now I’m wondering, why didn’t this company just pay these “vendors” directly and just have all the equipment shipped to me? I got a bad gut feeling about all of this and I regret it deeply. I also told the person that hired me via chat if I may give a proper two weeks notice to my employer and they said yes. However, I find myself getting calls and already getting tasks during my working hours like they just completely disregarded what I just said. I still want to give my best and remain professional and not disrespect my current job because they’ve been so good to me, but these people seem to not care at all and shows extreme lack of professionalism on their end by not respecting that “two -week wait to start” I had requested. They’re giving off red flags everywhere, I don’t wish to leave my current company after all and just hope I can get out of this mess and give them their money back.
