      Software Engineer Interview

      Nov 1, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AppSumo (Austin, TX) in Oct 2017

      Interview

Interview Steps: 1. Initial interview with Karry. (Skype call) 2. Technical interview with Chandler. (Skype call) 3. Programming Assignment. (Over the weekend) 4. In Person Interview. (At AppSumo HQ) (5. Possible lunch with AppSumo's President.) Currently on step 4 but both Karry and Chandler are great. They were very welcoming, answered all my questions, and gave me productive feedback on the assignment. They showed me around the company and introduced me to the entire team. They all seem like great people to work and have fun with.

      Question 1

Django was one of the topics discussed. It was more of a conversation than tradition interview questions (which was great).

I applied through other source. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at AppSumo (Austin, TX) in Mar 2016

      Interview

Had a phone call screen and then did a week long interview problem. Completed it perfectly according to the instructions but they said I didn't pass and then declined to pay me the guaranteed $200 they offered for taking the time to complete it. Don't waste your time.

Thanks for applying. We definitely appreciate everyone who wants to work with us. To make it worth your time which most companies don't, we pay if you pass our code challenge. We don't pay unless the person passes to the next round of interview. Otherwise we'd pay everyone who even submits a line of code. 100% of the times if someone doesn't pass its cause they didn't follow the instructions correctly. We do our best to give exact reasons so the person can improve for the future.
