I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Applied Materials (Bengaluru) in Nov 2017
Interview
The first round was an online test in Cocubes for an hour. It had a total of 50 questions of which 25 were (general aptitude + logical ability) and 25 were technical. Nearly 400 people have attempted the test out of which only 15 were shortlisted for the interview round. Two of the 15 were picked up for the job.
On the interview day, a brief presentation about the stuff the company does, along with the CTC details was informed. It was the best selection process that I ever attended. The interview started around 11 am and lasted for approximately an hour, after which was asked to leave and relax. No much waiting was there. It happened in a very organized manner. The team that came to the recruitment process was very energetic and very friendly in nature. Firstly, there was a technical interview for around 40 minutes followed by HR interview for around 20 minutes. The technical interview had questions on Design aspect mostly and HR interview was quite simple intended to know the individual's interest to join Applied Materials. If any question was not answered, the interviewer was kind enough to explain the answer in detail. This was the best part of the interview, even if one isn't selected, it would be a great learning experience. Questions were focused more on the subject of interest. In my case, it was Strength of Materials and Design of Machine Elements.

Question 1
Draw Stress-Strain Curve and explain all the terms in it.
What is toughness? Unit of toughness used in industry? (not Pa or MPa) Differentiate between a ductile material and brittle material wrt stress-strain relationship. Is toughness of a ductile material is always higher than a brittle material? (we had a little quality discussion on this question) If no, give examples.
What is meant by a bimetallic strip? Design considerations? (think of at least 5 parameters) Applications of a bimetallic strip? (other than as a thermostat) Give examples of BMS?
What is mean free path? How is vacuum created? What is the pressure in an absolute vacuum? (If zero, then why can gauge pressure be negative at times, give an example when gauge pressure is negative- Syphon) How is mean free path related to pressure and pressure? Which law gives the relationship between pressure and temperature? Explain?
HR Most challenging moment in your life and how have you faced it? Why applied materials? Why not higher education? How do we know you are a person of integrity? What are the principles you believe the most?
