TERRIBLE and unnecessarily long interview process. Seriously, the HR department at Applied Medical is a joke and I take it as a blessing from God that I did not receive an offer.
I applied through an employee referral in January 2019 and ended up receiving an email from a woman from HR about my application in the middle of March 2019. She asked me for a cover letter and resume which I had already provided in my original application so I interpreted this as maybe a good sign that they wanted to know more about me. Wrong. All she did with these documents was upload these to my application portal, where the exact same documents were already uploaded.
A month passes by and in the middle of April 2019, I get an email from a different woman from HR asking for a phone screen. I do the phone screen (they only asked basic background and resume questions) and 3-4 days later I get an email from yet another, different woman from HR to schedule an interview. I get a phone call from this woman asking to schedule an onsite interview. I told the woman who conducted the phone screen that I was not in Southern California where Applied Medical is located as at the time I was still a student at my university at the time (I would graduate May 2019). However, I guess she did not relay this information to the woman who wanted to schedule the onsite interview as she was surprised. Any way, she decided to schedule a web interview for the last week of April 2019 instead which was set to be a panel style interview with people from HR and the Regulatory Affairs Department. There were four people interviewing me, one of them being the Director of Regulatory Affairs at Applied and the other three being Regulatory Affairs Analysts or HR managers. In this interview I was asked questions about my resume, how much I know about regulatory affairs, how I would react to different situations, etc. There were no technical questions asked. This interview was about an hour long.
1 day after the interview concluded, I got a follow up email to schedule an onsite interview. The same woman from HR who setup the web interview contacted me for scheduling me and yet again she was surprised when I told her I wasn't in Southern California! The people interviewing me were young but judging by the poor memory of these HR folk they must be senile. Once again she tried scheduling another web interview, which at this point would have been useless since she said it would be the same people asking the same questions. I grudgingly accepted even though I knew this would be a waste of time. Thankfully, they followed up with me and updated me to tell me that they would wait to schedule an interview until after I graduated which was approximately mid May 2019 (about 2 weeks). After graduating, I interviewed onsite at the Applied Medical HQ in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. This was a panel style interview with 5 people. 4 of the interviewers were the same from my web interview, while 1 of them was new. The questions asked in this interview were similar to the web interview (asking about resume, background, and hypothetical scenarios). All in all, I left this interview thinking it went well and that they liked me. 1 hour after my interview ended I got an email from yet another different woman from HR (that's probably 4 separate people at this point lol) who said I was on the shortlist for the position and that they wanted references. I provided 5 references to them by the following day (3rd week of May 2019). After this, I played the waiting game. I waited 3 weeks with no follow up or status update from Applied Medical. I decided it had been suspiciously long after a reference check which is usually the final stage of the hiring process so I emailed Applied Medical asking for a status update. I got a swift reply saying that I was rejected. After 4 months from submitting my original application to my rejection, it was all over. I have to say, the amount of hoops they wanted me to jump through (the biggest one being their incompetent HR) was not worth the position, especially at the salary they told me they normally give to people in this position. The interviews were all fairly simple but be warned that as a company there is no professionalism shown at Applied Medical towards applicants. As other reviewers have said, they have no qualms with ghosting you and wasting your time with unnecessary BS. I would definitely look elsewhere for jobs if you value your time and professionalism in a company. I have never seen a company try to conduct 4 rounds of interviews and a reference check for an entry level position only to ghost you and then reject you. Never.
