      Creative Writer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Applied Minds (Burbank, CA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

The interview and hiring process was a train wreck. I was brought in for an on-site interview, but they were sufficiently disorganized that I only saw one person face-to-face aside from the HR VP. The remaining interviews were conducted via phone with a number of people who were off-site -- my own cell phone -- while they left me all afternoon in a small meeting room. The interviewers themselves were no better; one admitted that he had not taken the time to look at my resume and was not especially familiar with the role I was being hired into. None seemed prepared for the interview and did not know what kinds of questions to ask someone in my domain (editorial). I never had an opportunity to talk to or be questioned by the person who would have been my manager. The big payoff I was promised repeatedly ahead of the interview was a tour of the workshop facilities, which were reported to be mind-blowing. On the actual day of the interview, they completed the interviews and then released me without the tour. I had to specifically ask to get it -- more than once -- and then was guided quickly around the facility by someone in HR who was not especially knowledgeable and could not answer any questions. Literally months passed afterwards with no definitive word on their decision. After several weeks, I followed up and was told they were still thinking. I followed up again several additional times with a similar response. It has now been over 6 months and they never had the courtesy to formally close the loop on the interview.

      Question 1

I was asked to discuss some marketing material and how I would change it if I were writing it myself.
