When I entered the store, I noticed that the staff and the general manager appeared to be unaware of the candidates being interviewed that day for the shift manager position. It was unclear whether there was a miscommunication in their system or if the general manager missed the emails.
I was interviewed by a manager instead of the general manager, who was on parental leave. The manager indicated he was not the hiring manager and had not been informed about the multiple interviews scheduled for that day. Overall, the interviewing process did not meet my expectations.
The manager followed a standard set of questions. I took the initiative to ask my own questions to better understand the position and the company culture. I inquired about a typical shift manager's day and the minimum wage for the role. I learned that the position pays $2.00 less than stated in the job listing.
I also asked about potential challenges a shift manager might face. The manager mentioned issues related to scheduling, training gaps, and staff shortages due to two managers leaving the establishment. Additionally, I asked about the training process for the position. He explained that while they try to prioritize training, there may be situations where I would need to rely on my own judgment.
After I finished my questions, he assured me that I would receive feedback from the general manager within a few weeks. However, after two months, I did not receive any follow-up communication, either by email or phone call.
It looks like my resume got lost in the sauce.
