      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Aritzia (Vancouver, BC) in Apr 2024

      Interview

The process took just over 2 months. Four formal interviews, one project, and one in-person presentation of the project. Interviews all felt more like vibe checks and I was not once asked a typical interview question or about my experience which is fine, I assume that's how they do things because they like to appear ~chill~. However, this was the most disorganised and unprofessional interview process I have ever gone through. There was so much miscommunication on Aritzia's end-- to the point of me being told I didn't get a job by HR, and then the VP of the department telling me that wasn't true and that I was still a candidate. Another example of this was having a phone interview scheduled with HR and the woman telling me she would have forgotten about it had I not emailed her the morning of to update her with contact info-- if that's the case play it off like nothing, don't tell me you forgot. Another time I went into their office for an interview with the VP of the department and she told me I was also going to be interviewing with two prospective managers. I was not made aware of this prior which was fine however no one else knew that was the case, not even the managers themselves. It was such a red flag that a public company is this disorganised. Additionally, they bait-and-switched me pretty hard-- I applied for a position that would have been a lateral move and had a compensation representative of my 7 years of experience in the industry and MA directly related to the role. Once the time came for HR to begin discussing compensation with me, (after all four interviews, completing and handing in my assignment, but right before my in-person presentation. Read: far too late) I found out I was not being considered for that job and was only considered for an entry-level position with a salary below what another Vancouver-based company I am interviewing with pays their entry-level employees in the same position. I spent two days negotiating and although they raised their offer to only $3000 below the entry-level salary of the other brand I mentioned, this was still not an appropriate compensation given how much I was bringing to the team. I tried to negotiate the possibility of a more senior role closer to the role I actually applied for and my current title (at an actual fashion brand) but they would not negotiate that. I do understand that trying to request a different title at this point in the process was probably useless, but I knew I wouldn't accept anything else so I figured I had nothing to lose. Their reasoning for not having wiggle room on title or salary was that I have not worked at Aritzia before and do not know their company culture. While this is true, I haven't worked retail at Aritzia because I have spent the last seven years living in New York working for the brands that Aritzia knocks off. The level of unprofessionalism was astounding and being told my master's degree from an Ivy League is a less valuable experience than if I had spent time working in their stores is objectively untrue. Friends of mine work for Aritzia, they get paid very well and enjoy their work, I think the department I was interviewing with is just very particular about how they want to sculpt their employees, but I know the value of my external experiences that I would be bringing to Aritzia, and know that I could have learned the company culture from the job that I had applied for, as opposed to the one the attempted to demote me to. I am very happy to have declined the compensation they offered me and proud of myself for knowing my value despite them not seeing it.

They didn't ask questions, just talked at me and then asked me what questions I had.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Aritzia (New York, NY) in Feb 2016

      Interview

Lengthy phone and Skype interviews over a period of weeks from Vancouver to NYC, creative project completed. Face to face scheduled in NYC after creative project review. During 1 on 1 meeting interviewer seemed entirely disinterested as though a desicion on another candidate been made and he was only complete scheduled interviews as a formality.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Few questions actually were asked in 1-1 interview. Only vague open ended statements were made.
