They basically wanted a Product Delivery Manager or an autonomous project manager and not an actual Product Manager. 1. Recruiter screen - standard stuff. Don't expect much help from the recruiter, they did the bare minimum and not much else. 2. Hiring manager interview: standard. They asked you behavioral questions relating to the product. 3. UX Designer and Product Director (think of a pedagogical leader and not an actual Product Director as you'd expect in a tech company): this was the standard Designer paired with an engineer interview. The product director was an ex-engineer and functioned as that in the interview. This was probably the most well-done aspect of the interview. 4. Hiring manager and HM's boss - This interview is pretty left-field. Why have the hiring manager in this interview when I just had her two interviews ago? The step-level manager who's supposed to lead the business side of the online and book business couldn't articulate a product or company strategy beyond "we need to refactor this app" nor articulate what his needs are for this role and the business beyond the refactor. The hiring manager was leading the prioritization exercise that seemed devoid of any business-related context and in a vacuum. Pull the role and empower your existing project manager or change the role to be more of a product owner. You're looking for product execution. Tailor the job description to fit it.
