The hiring process for the Astra Grad Program MT involves the following steps:
1. Aptitude test
Just the usual basic aptitude tests. Quite challenging, but not that difficult. Around 50 people passed this stage. We waited around 3 days before we knew whether we passed or not.
2. Group Discussion
The applicants that passed the aptitude tests will be grouped into groups of 5 people, and we discussed 8 solutions for alleviating Jakarta's congestion problems. You have to show initiative, ability to influence other people, while not being too dominant at the same time. Don't try to force your opinion on other people. Usually only 2 out of the 5 people in the group passed this stage. The results were revealed just 90 minutes after the discussion itself.
3. Presentation followed by an interview by GM
We needed to prepare a presentation (we were given 1 day) on: (1) Astra's business coverage and current conditions; and (2) the opportunities that the company should take for the future. Based on my personal experience, focus your presentation and research on point 2 of the presentation. The GM will constantly ask and challenge your ideas; DO YOUR RESEARCH. There will be some mini-competency questions after the presentation.
4. Board of Directors Interview
Mainly competency questions about your experiences, be clear, systematic, and concise. Expect to be interviewed in English, and some mini-case studies (I was given the standard profitability questions).
5. HR interview and offering
If you have reached this stage, congrats! You have been given an offer to work in the largest company in Indonesia. HR interviews are mainly formality for helping them decide where and how you will fit in.
Overall a very challenging experience. You will need to think on your feet, be able to express your opinions, and possess a good understanding of business/current affairs.
Seniority seems prevalent within in the company. You will work directly under the board of directors; expect to have contrasting opinions with your superiors (distant generation gaps might be the cause). However, the company presents a very good place to start if you're looking for experience, security, and good compensation.
Ps: The management training itself will be completed in 2 years. After that you will be bound contractually with the company for 3 years. Be prepared to spend a minimum of 5 years in the company.
