I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Atkins (Epsom, England) in Jan 2017
Interview
The assessment day included a technical exam, a written exam, a group exercise and a panel interview, not necessarily in that order.
The technical exam focused on the design of a screen to prevent debris from entering the drainage networks, something I had never done before. The written exam was based on luggage management at a fictional airport, which was an interesting exercise, but not enough time was allowed to answer it sufficiently. The group exercise centred around how best to allocate resources between 3 cities in a developing island nation given its problems with over population in some cities and environmental concerns in some. The interview was a mix of competency and technical assessment.
