I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Atlas Informatics (Seattle, WA) in May 2015
Interview
At first I hesitated to apply after I read all the comments here, but I really want to make a career transition from building web pages to web apps, so I applied. The interview process is very unique compare to what I had before:
The interview process includes initial contact -> phone screen -> onsite (cultural and technical) -> working onsite -> final decision.
I stopped after the onsite interview. All I can say is that this company focus on each candidate's personality, passion and even history (personality related, not tech skills related necessarily) no less than the candidate's current skill set. I think this may seems very weird and not even related if we are just talking about getting a job offer, work regularly then get paid; but for a long term's perspective this is equally important as tech skills, because all those aspects which seems useless to value impacts to performance and teamwork a lot. I didn't do very good during the technical round but passed the cultural round. (Didn't learn enough new technology due to their lack of compatibility to all version of all type of browsers).
After the onsite, the interviewer for my technical round told me that he wants to give me another chance because he sees potential in me, and I am a great cultural fit for the team. So I was given a project to build a front-end web app with 3 days of time. At the end, I didn't do well within the timeline due to various of reasons (full time worker with OT work load, preparation for next onsite interview the following week, and misunderstood then made wrong assumption of the expected behavior). So I was told they will move on with the process. Yet I was encouraged to keep the dialog open with the team and try again in 6-12 month after I worked on the parts that I am lack of.
I decide to study more and try again in the future, although I cannot speak for everyone works there but those I met during interview (office manager, director of recruiting, team lead of testing and senior GUI Craftsman) are all very professional yet caring and friendly: either because someone said to me you have potential and gave me a second chance, or those who listened my own dance club history, are all my very first time experience (I worked for 10 jobs in the past 6 years). I think a company values more than merely leadership and technical skill could be something else, the interview makes me feel the company is trying to break the traditional wall (money <--> duty) between employer and employees. Unlike everybody else, I had a very positive experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Due to DNA I cannot say anything about the questions, but every set of questions is very well organized which starts easy then build up its difficulties. Performance and optimization plus newest technology is more important than compatibility for all older version of browsers.
