Senior Business Analyst for the Service Enablement Team
Atlassian seems to be a great company and I would surely give it another go in the future. However, the hiring process to work with the service enablement team was relatively long and cumbersome.
The job has been advertise in many different channels for months. They constantly refresh the job ad every 1-2w period.
After the initial phone screening interview, I became a little skeptical about the process as the homework screening exercise was nearly free labour. I had to write an 18 pages long essay as soon as possible.
Next, a 3 hours long final interview. I was be assessed based on technical skills, values, and team fit. The technical and values interview were quite easy, if you are a modern professional with an agile mindset this will be a piece of cake.
The technical team is more interested into knowing whether you can quickly understand the issue and provide a solution, instead of the good ol'syntax check. However, don't let their talking distract you and nail the syntax as well! (they won't stop talking)
During the team fit interview, I didn't connect with the SETeam as they seemed quite uncomfortable with my highly communicative, extrovert personality. Having said that, I decided not to take the job.
Recommendation:
It was frustrating to go through multiple rounds of interviews and, only at the very end, not connect with the team due to incompatible personality traits, even when you nail the values interview.
My recommendation is to talk with your team first and profile the 'ideal candidate'. Having a clear picture of the 'ideal candidate' will help you to keep you team in their social comfort zone and optimise the hiring process. The recruiter is able to tell during the 30min phone interview whether the candidate will fit or not.
Pros:
- Great company values and mission
- Popular products and applications
- Good company benefits
- Career growth opportunities
Cons:
- Hiring process
