First couple interviews were great. There were a couple small red flags (e.g. recruiter acting like the people I’d be working for were celebrities in my field (lol, ok), no value given to continued learning or networking in your discipline). If you don’t support conferences or consortiums, don’t hire people with specialized backgrounds.
Then came the “case study” which just happened to be a topic I have extensive research and corporate experience with (peer reviewed research, taught courses on, workforce program implementations and evaluation). Job posting described a role that applied work science to practice but the reviewers clearly lack understanding of this. I typically bow out of an interview if they ask for free work but I was intrigued if they really wanted and understood what they were asking for in the posting.
Dodged a bullet of entering a role that describes one thing but values something nebulous.
