The hiring and interview process was quite long, but for very good reason. This is a startup company and they needed to make sure that the person they hired for the position for which I interviewed was critical; as are all the positions in startups.
The first interview was actually two interviews in one. After the initial interview with Human Resources, I was then interviewed by the COO. The two interviews combined lasted about two hours total. As it was the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, I wasn't able to meet the supervisor for the position until the next week. That interview lasted about an hour and a half. About one week later, I was called by HR and told that I was among the top contenders for the position and asked to prepare a research assignment and then present the information to the company one week later.
It was after my presentation that the whole company met and discussed in detail my strengths, perceived weaknesses, comments and concerns. I received the job offer that evening. The total process was 22 days from first interview to offer.
I think it is important to note that while the interview process was long (but also consider that there was a holiday in that time period as well), it was a great way for them to not only consider my qualifications and fit within their company, but my opportunity to see if their company was a good fit in my life. The assignment I was given really gave me the chance to dive into the details of this company and see if we were good for each other. I can truly say that I love my job, the people, and the culture here.
