      Data Scientics Interview

      Sep 21, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Boston, MA
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Automatic (Boston, MA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Show up at 8:30, leave at 0. They handed me a project to do. Told me to do it in Python, but I'm an R guy. Nonetheless, the person I talked to insisted on python. I thought maybe they wanted to see how I worked without my packages. So I spent a day learning about signals processing data from the CTOs grad school career and re-implementing everything you need to do machine learning. It was question of what was quicker, looking something up, or just doing it in python. As you could imagine, my model was very simple, and just bareful accruately running my time was up. By the time the interview came was I exhausted, and getting grilled over details found in libraries. The worse was when the CTO said, "Now, imagine you did this in R, what approach would you have taken? I'm looking for high level ideas"I had used every good idea at all leaves just to get that project done in less than 8 house.
