I applied with my resume and a cover letter on the company website. A few days later, I was contacted by a recruiter who wanted to speak with me. I responded with my availability over the coming few days. I received no reply. A couple days later, the company sent out a form e-mail indicating that they were pursuing other candidates.
Two days after I received the form e-mail rejection, the same recruiter contacted me and apologized, stating that my original reply somehow found its way into her spam folder. I was understanding because these things often happen. She expressed interest in speaking with me that afternoon and offered two potential time slots. I picked one in a reply e-mail. She did not respond to the e-mail, nor did she call at the specified time. Which sucked, because I took the afternoon off so that I could speak with her.
Strangely, I did hear from her the next day. She apologized for calling a half-hour later than the agreed-upon time. She did not appear to realize that she was actually calling twenty-four-and-a-half hours late. I did not return her call.
