I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Avalara (Seattle, WA) in Sep 2015
Interview
The process consisted of a phone screen, then a phone interview with the hiring manager followed by 2 hours of in person interviews with the hiring manager and 3 peers. I really enjoyed my phone interview with the hiring manager, but when I came into the office for the in person interviews I was majorly thrown off by the peer interviewers. Overall they came off as unprofessional - one told me all about her family, another one told me about the health problems she'd been having all year - I only get two hours with you people to see if I'd like to spend 40 a week with you and that is what you decide to talk about? I walked away from the peer interviews still not knowing exactly what the job was. I followed up twice with my contact in HR but I never heard anything after my in person round - pretty sloppy. Everyone who makes it to the final stage deserves to hear a yes/no and feedback, even if both parties agree it wasn't the best fit.

Question 1
What would you tell our clients if our services were down - would you offer them any credit for lost business?
Fun they ask questions and keep it light. They expect you to do your homework and know about the company - which is standard. I found the interview process to be easy for a larger company on the initial phases.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Avalara (Durham, NC) in Feb 2025
Interview
Initial 30 minute call with recruiter. Next round was a 30 minute call with a sales director. Next round was two 39 minutes calls with 2 different sales managers. One of these calls felt very scripted like I was being asked required questions.

Question 1
What’s the most annoying thing about your current job?
I applied online. I interviewed at Avalara (Brighton, England)
Interview
HR interview, an online psychometric test, call with hiring manager. But please do not bother doing interview with them if you respect yourself and your time. I reached all the way to hiring manager stage but never heard anything back. I reached out to HR for an update to which they reply only after reaching out at least twice and even after 2 weeks of the interview I was told there is no update from hiring manager and then just started ghosting.
