      Virtual Assistant Interview

      Jan 31, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Fortaleza, Ceará
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at BELAY (Fortaleza, Ceará) in Jan 2018

      Interview

Intensive, laborious, and exaggerated. I spent many days preparing myself for the different stages of their interview process. I took the first step at the end of December 2017 by submitting my resume online. Two weeks later, I received an e-mail to take a timed Skills Assessment (30 minutes). My results were favorable and therefore I was invited to participate in a video interview. I did so by selecting a block of time in a schedule based on the interviewer's availability. This also had a predetermined time set for 45 minutes, however mine was roughly only 30 minutes. This is where it gets interesting. I honestly do not feel that I did an excellent job on the video interview because I was very nervous. The interviewer seemed to notice my nervousness and took it in stride. I was grateful because she stated she was advancing me to the next stage of the process. Then began an e-mail being introduced to a higher exec. This person explained the "Skills Assessment Phase" and that she would be forwarding me multiple requests to complete right away. If you are unavailable during any part of that week, you have to let her know right away. Even if you have another job, they expect you to be available ALL day everyday and expect fast e-mail responses, despite your current work situation or personal circumstances. The tasks were estimated to take 45-60 minutes, however anyone who has been involved in this process knows they have done a poor estimation for these requests. My first assessment was fairly easy, and I kept in touch to let them know I was working on it. It was returned to them within 24 hours. Second assessment however, much more involved and took a considerable amount of time to perfect the project I was tasked. I spent over two hours on this project and sent it back with high hopes. Unfortunately, less than 2 hours later, I was e-mailed my "thanks but no thanks" e-mail, writing me off even though I did what was asked. What is more disheartening is the fact that they cannot provide you ANY feedback or elaborate on how they came to their decision to decline your application. You're not paid for the hours of hard work you are asked to perform and you basically leave it to them to just say yes or no. I will say this to the Belay execs, congratulations for having an impressive reputation on Glassdoor. However, take a look at the Interview remarks about your company and you will see the vast amount of negative input based on your refusal provide feedback to those of us you have written off. We spent a great deal of time and effort on you, so the least you could do is provide us feedback as to why we were not selected. If that takes too much time for you, perhaps create a few e-mail templates, cut and paste it into an e-mail so we aren't left high and dry.

      Interview

The interview process was very professional, yet relatable. Their Talent Expert asked great intro questions about my interests, skills, background and what led me to apply for this role. She listened very intently and took notes. After exchanged questions, she explained the hiring process. BELAY has an entire Client Success team who's dedicated to matching the ideal candidate (VA) with their client and advocating for the VAs. Overall, the experience was pleasant. I was offered the role and gladly accepted. It can take time to find the right client, but if you want a remote role with room for growth, this is where you want to be.

      Interview

Easy process, the rep was fast and willing to negotiate salary. There is not an option to apply for higher paying VA roles. The overall organization model is inspiring. The organization corporate unfortunately is in person and not virtual.

Thank you for taking the time to share your interview experience, and congratulations on accepting your offer! We’re grateful you chose to partner with BELAY and are encouraged to hear that the process felt smooth, responsive, and positive overall. We’re glad your Talent Specialist created space for open conversation, including compensation expectations. While contractor pay ranges are aligned to specific service lines and contractor experience levels, there are opportunities for growth throughout your time at BELAY. You also mentioned our corporate structure. BELAY is a fully remote culture. Most of our corporate team members work remotely. Our contractor community remains fully remote, serving clients across the country. We’re thankful you found the organization’s model inspiring. The mission—to serve both clients and contractors well through flexible, values-driven work—is what continues to guide our growth. Welcome to BELAY. We’re excited for what’s ahead in your journey with us. Warmly, The BELAY Team

      Interview

Belay process is tedious. The initial application is the biggest hurdle, it is a long process, with tests and video responses. Once you get past that you meet with someone for a zoom interview. That process was simple a communication to see if you fit what they are looking for.
