      Marketing Assistant Interview

      Aug 10, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at BELAY in Aug 2025

      Interview

Belay's application process is lengthy and demanding: multi-part skills tests, cognitive assessments, written essays, multiple one-way video responses, plus a case study and portfolio submission. All of it has to be submitted within 48 hours. After all that work and despite my significant relevant experience, I was never granted a real interview — only a canned rejection with no feedback. The company calls the process “extensive” but withholds the full list of steps upfront, so as a candidate, you only discover its scope after you've already invested hours of your time. Per Belay's own job posting, the role pays $28–$33/hour — only if matched with a client, with no guaranteed hours. This amount of screening would make sense for a senior, six-figure role — not for this contract position with no guaranteed hours. The careers page features a team photo with little visible diversity, and the one-way video interview format — often criticized as impersonal and prone to bias — does nothing to reassure candidates. The takeaway is clear: candidate time is treated as disposable, with no regard for the effort invested.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Give an example of how you've used data to influence a social media or digital marketing strategy. Which KPIs/metrics do you find most meaningful, and how do you use this data to optimize your approach? Experience with key performance indicators (KPIs) like ROI, conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, lifetime value, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our application process. At BELAY, we are deeply committed to honoring both our clients and our contractors, which is why our vetting process is indeed extensive. Because the roles we staff involve close client partnership, confidentiality, and a high level of trust, our goal is to ensure alignment on both skillset and culture fit before extending opportunities. That said, we hear your feedback on the length and transparency of the process. We understand that your time is valuable, and we are continually evaluating ways to create a more clear, respectful, and candidate-friendly experience while still maintaining the high standards our clients expect. Regarding your comments on compensation and diversity, we strive to be transparent about the contract nature of our roles and to foster an environment where every candidate and contractor feels seen, valued, and respected. We take concerns about fairness and inclusion seriously and will use your feedback to inform our ongoing improvements. We regret that your experience left you feeling discouraged, and we sincerely thank you for sharing your perspective. Warmly, The BELAY Team
