I applied online and received a call asking to come in for an onsite interview and tour. My interview was rescheduled by Benteler twice, both times only getting a few hours notice for the need to reschedule. First I was put in a room and given a quiz to complete. The HR rep came in after about 10 minutes and sat down to talk to me but couldn't find the professionals who were supposed to interview me. The HR rep talked about how she dislikes Louisiana (a place I have just moved to) and did not discuss the company or job at all, even when I tried to steer the conversation that way. The other interviewers eventually came in and collected the quiz and never said a word about it. I was asked standard interview questions about my experience, but was interrupted frequently to be quizzed about various topics I mentioned. The way the questions were asked were beyond a typical interview questioning and made the interview feel hostile, like they were trying to catch me in lie. The interviewers said they had an immediate need for someone, but at the same time couldn't tell me what projects I would be working on. While being walked out of the building by the HR rep, she spoke negatively about one of the other interviewers, which I thought was very unprofessional. Although I have 6 years of project engineering experience they only offered an entry level position. The offer was for 75K with up to a 10% bonus, 6% 401K match, and 2 weeks vacation. I countered with 82K and 4 weeks vacation, comparable to my current compensation and was immediately denied so I declined the offer. Overall I felt like they did not try to "sell" me on the job at all. Only negatives were pointed out (such as having to be in the hot steel mill in the Louisiana summer heat) and they did not appear to have any company culture to make Benteler a positive place to work.
