Hiring at bjs is basically the same as any other retail establishment. You have to talk to an inexperienced personnel mgr, take a personality test, then talk to a senior manager (if he/she can tear themselves away from belittling their current employees long enough to do so). If you pass the PDI and drug test you basically have the job. At the club where I worked the personnel manager never checked references or did the background checks. I'm sure it is not like this everywhere, but just so you know - those things aren't mandatory. If you still want the job....good luck.
