      Portfolio Analyst Interview

      Jul 27, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at BNY in Jun 2018

      Interview

I usually don't do this but this was one of the most strange interview experiences I have ever had. First received a phone call from a recruiter who was located in Pittsburgh (this was the first red flag for me..every time the recruiter is not located in the same office as the open position it is always a disaster trying to coordinate things). She set up an initial phone interview with a Senior Portfolio Manager. The conversation was very straightforward..background, experience, why BNY? At the end he told me he liked me and wanted me to talk to his boss (who was a man) and two analysts who were currently in the role. I received a call from the recruiter a little while after and set up two separate phone interviews back to back. The first one was with the analysts, second one was with another member of management (this person was a woman so clearly not the Senior Portfolio Manager's boss as planned). Second round of interviews comes and I receive a call from the analysts..again very straightforward conversation. The second interview with the manager was supposed to begin right after the first one ended. I waited half an hour for the manager to call me and she never calls- no problem things come up and I get it. However, this is where things got extremely unprofessional and flat out rude. I call the recruiter and explain I never received a call from the manager. She says she will look into it and call me back. A few hours later still no word from her so I send an email and ask if she had heard back from the manager. No response. Finally, I sent a final email asking if the role was still open, if I was still being considered, and whether the manager wanted to reschedule our interview. She responds and tells me that due to the manager's schedule she is unable to reschedule but the position is still open and I am still being considered. Not sure why they couldn't just schedule me to interview with someone else who was less busy... At this point I gave up. I have never heard of such a disorganized interview process..especially with such an established company like BNY. At one point one of the people I interviewed with told me they've been trying to fill this position for a year now. Now it finally makes sense..

      Interview

Communication wasn't great throughout the entire interview process mainly because of Covid-19. Besides covid, once I landed the interview it seemed very straightforward. I ended up deciding I didn't really want this job after landing the interview and just gave it a shot.

      Interview

Basic behavioral interview, no technical questions asked. Rotated meeting everyone in the office and they asked me their own set of questions that were not designed to trick you. Overall it was not challenging.

      Interview

I applied on the website. Contacted by email a few months later. First round was a typical phone screening. Setup an in-person interview. They said upfront it would be 4+ weeks to hear back after the first in-person interview. After that, I had a second interview. Received job offer two weeks after the second round interview.
