The initial process was straightforward: applied online, received a call from HR to discuss my resumé, previous experiences and current situation. I was then invited for a face-to-face interview with the partner and other team members. At the interview, I was given an overview of the firm and the practice, then the partner asked me questions about my experience and interest. I had a discussion with the other members of the team about my experience, the work at the firm and their experiences. Overall, I found these interviews pleasant and the people were friendly. I was given a preliminary offer a few days later, with a salary that was below market and no room to negotiate. Nothing was finalized at that point until I could meet with the managing partner of the team, which happened several days later.
That meeting was, by far, hands down, the most horribly offensive interviewing experience I have ever had. It wasn't even an interview. It consisted of a soliloquy by a man who was harsh and rude from the get-go, tearing me down, denigrating my prior experiences (including several years in similar roles), questioning the veracity of my statements, and telling me why, in his opinion, I was not suited for this position. He flat out said he preferred a young person in this role (I am over 40). His behavior was egregious. Needless to say, I informed HR that I would be withdrawing my application and explained why. That session was clearly indicative that this firm is a toxic place to work, which is also manifested in many of the reviews on this site.
