Bally’s Corporation/Interactive. One of the world’s great casino, gambling, and sporting companies. Now, you can add ‘time-wasting’ and ‘circus’ to its tagline. I heard from the Technical Recruiter the day I applied and that would begin a month’s-worth of interviewing and preparation. The first interview was conducted over the phone by the recruiter, who grilled me with some elaborate vetting and questioning. I aced it and the next interview was scheduled almost immediately. Round two was virtual, lasting about 20-25 minutes with what would have been my future boss. It was very relaxed and it felt like we had natural chemistry. I knew within moments that he was a fan of me, or so it would seem. The third and final interview would be scheduled shortly thereafter. Now, this interview would be in-person and about 60 minutes. The vibes and interactions were positive and the language used suggested that I would be a shoe-in for the role. I sold myself confidently and felt like it was another successful interview. Afterward, they wanted me to send more samples of my work, which I did. I never received a response from the interviewers, but what I’d hear the next day would relieve my paranoia. The morning after the previously mentioned final interview, I received a -conditional job offer- from Bally’s! Keep in mind, at this point we have not directly discussed my salary beyond the opening phone interview. She requested references and I happily provided them. “I am going to connect with them right away.” Three full business days later? Crickets. I asked my references if they had been contacted. They hadn’t been. I then got an email from the recruiter saying that there had been delays and that I would have my fate sealed “Friday or Monday,” just days away. This puzzled me, as I had already been given a conditional offer and my references still had never been contacted as the days went on. Here we are more than a week later and I never heard from Bally’s again. Ghosted. After a conditional offer of employment. At this point, after such disrespect, I would be a fool to accept any position from them. If I had handled myself the way they have, I would be immediately disqualified. Why shouldn’t the employer be held to the same expected decorum of the candidate? Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. I wasted my time so you don’t have to waste yours.
