IT Infrastructure Systems Administrator II Interview

      Dec 7, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Battelle

      Interview

HR screen, then panel interview. Complete bait and switch hiring process used here. Ultimately, the hiring manager had no idea what he was looking for. I was told this role was intended to be a back-fill for someone who quit. The panel interview seemed to go well, and they said they wanted to have a more detailed follow-up call, to determine if I could be hired in as a 'III'. Then HR contacted me to say they decided not to move forward. What a total crock. After telling me both in the panel interview and over the phone a week later that you wanted to schedule a follow-up call, to discuss further technical details to determine if I should be a II or a III? This was a total cop-out by the manager. I found out that he and his "team" got together, and decided they need someone that's more of an architect. Yeah, you and everyone else needs one of those, and Battelle isn't getting one. Need I remind you, you posted this role for a 'II'? Battelle needs to stop "fishing" and wasting people's time. Oh, and good luck finding an architect. Awful interview experience. I'm glad it didn't move forward, nobody needs a moronic manager like that. Thankfully, I can only imagine what a mistake this place would have been for my career. Potential candidates, do read the company reviews on here. You will find A LOT, especially with regard to knee-jerk attrition moves and federal budget fears. If you do end up interviewing for this company, protect yourself! Be very up-front and direct with them, because they won't be that way with you. Also, ask when they plan on hiring a candidate by (you're looking for an exact date here, see if they dance around that question). Also, ask them how serious they are about filling the role, since they weren't when I interviewed with them.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The questioning was technically unspecific, which is why they had the idea to have a follow-up call, which which ended up never happening due to their own laziness. In the panel interview, the hiring manager apologized at least five times saying sorry, he was unprepared. Really? You're unprepared to interview someone a week out from scheduling? Someone who took the time to be present for the interview YOU scheduled? How utterly unprofessional.
