Beacon Pointe is a firm that is disorganized and appeared to be very inexperienced with the recruiting process. After the initial application process which included a 30-minute assessment, I went through three rounds of interviewing with two lead planners (with zero personality, I should add) who didn't know how to interview, let alone assess a candidate's viability. Questions were asked about whether I was a "fit" for the financial planner role or their associate wealth advisor position when the results of their assessment, as well as my educational background and experience, clearly showed that I was the best match for the financial planner position. It was becoming increasingly evident the two planners did not want me on their team. They subsequently sent me off to interview with the CEO and advisory team to be considered for the associate wealth advisor role. At the end of those interviews, both stated I was a better fit for the financial planner role, with one of the lead wealth advisors actually encouraging me to work on the financial planning team as he thought the AWA role wasn't a good fit for me. It was becoming evident that the advisory team did not want me in their department either. I got tired of playing the game of hot potato between the financial planning and advisory department, so I voluntarily removed myself from consideration. Additional concerns I had that compelled me to remove myself from contention were 1) high expectations for the role - one of the lead planners mentioned she expected a candidate to commit to the role for five years and "not make one single mistake." Good luck with that, 2) what they say does not match with what they do. For example, during the interview with the CEO Shannon, she basically spent half the time praising herself for how much the firm values diversity and inclusion, all the while texting on her cell phone and working on her computer for almost the entire duration of the interview - that's not valuing diversity and inclusion, 3) I asked a question about what makes Beacon Pointe better than their competitors, and the head of the advisory team responded with his memorized sales pitch that they, in essence, do "comprehensive financial planning." Every firm and their mama claims to do comprehensive financial planning these days - if that's your primary value proposition, you don't have a value proposition. Beacon Pointe is a subpar firm, and I'm a high-quality candidate, so thank you, NEXT.
