I applied for a copy editing position back in 2017. I flew in from out of state at the request of the recruiter to meet the team. I was super excited! Upon arrival, I was greeted kindly by the recruiter. She took the time to show me around the new building, which is quite impressive. The team I interviewed with seemed nice. I felt the interview went well. I sent the expected "thank you" email within 24 hours. Then about 4 weeks later I emailed to see if they had an update on the position. I kept waiting and waiting but no response. Unbelievable. It doesn't take long to send a "Sorry, we went with another candidate" email. Especially when someone flies in from another state at the last minute! The same job posting was re-submitted on Indeed a few months later. I thought I'd try again. I was contacted by a different recruiter who wanted to conduct a phone interview. I told her what happened and she said she would speak to the team. Again, I never heard back!
This company is sure to lose a lot of great talent treating people this way. It's probably a blessing I didn't get the job. I would never want to work for a company as disrespectful and unorganized as Belk. You would think a retail company in this climate of the "retail apocalypse" would be more cautious about how it treats possible new recruits. AVOID!
