      Cashier Interview

      Jun 10, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Knoxville, TN
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Best Buy (Knoxville, TN) in Jun 2012

      Interview

Simply, put in an application online and got a call back the next day, which is the "first interview". They ask about hours, which area you want to work in and availability overall. Set up the interview for a couple of days later. Dressed up as nicely as possible and initially, the manager for the area I would have been working in was impressed. She was very nice and instantly got set up for the third interview. All of her questions were rather standard-ish; "Tell me about a time you worked in a group?", "Tell me about a time when you worked with someone you didn't get along with?", "Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer". She asked about previous experience, which I had and told her I had previous experience working with electronics and selling "add-ons". I think this is what really sold me to her. The "third interview" did not go so well. It was with the store manager and he was rather brisk, seemed as if he had a short fuse. Right off the bat, I felt uncomfortable and it set the attitude for the whole interview. He asked me the dread, "Tell me about yourself?" and then a few questions about my previous experience with sales. We ended the interview with the worst overall question, "Sell me this stapler." There was no scenario setting for this and I was utterly lost about what to say, since he didn't set any background. Of course I blew it, he was nice about it and told me that they'd call me back when he got together with the other manager who had interviewed me to make decisions; which I knew was a lie, because she had personally told me she was going on vacation in the next few days. So I was never called back, no surprise. They seem like a decent company to work for from the interview, but very competitive. This is not the company to work for, if you're shy. Be prepared to sell yourself hard in this interview and dress as nice as possible.

Was not hard. Asked simple behavioural questions and wanted to grasp if I could handle high-pressured environments to be able to handle work on days such as Black Friday. Mostly just talked about my past experience in retail!

It wasn’t bad at all. It was just a few quick questions about my past experience and whether or not I would be able to work part or full time, stuff like that.
