I received a quick response to set up an initial call with the recruiter, followed by a positive conversation with the interim manager/chief of staff. Things started off smoothly, but the process became drawn out and disorganized after that.
I was asked to do a 3-hour panel interview (requested onsite but I opted for virtual). Afterward, they told me they wanted to move forward but ran into scheduling delays due to vacations and an offsite. I was also told that they weren’t entirely sure what they were looking for and wanted to explore interviewing other candidates — not reassuring for a Director role.
Despite already meeting with the chief of staff twice, I was told I would need to do a case study with them as the final round, but then was asked to do a call with the new CRO. That conversation was odd as the tone, priorities, and overall approach was inconsistent from what had been articulated as critical needs from other senior leaders. When I followed up the next week, I was informed they had decided not to continue.
What Stood Out:
• The process was ad-hoc and lacked clarity, with shifting requirements and redundancies.
• Internal dynamics raised red flags: hyper-change framed as “growth,” unclear hiring goals, and disconnects between HR and hiring managers.
• There was noticeable internal tensions across roles and in relation to partners.
Overall Impression:
While the people I spoke with were polite and warm, the interview process revealed underlying issues — disorganization, lack of alignment, and biased / unfair practices. Based on my experience as a candidate and the questions I asked throughout the interview process, the company lacks a clear hiring strategy and healthy internal culture. Candidates should be aware that the company seems unprepared to engage with new hires effectively.
