Applied online. 3 weeks later I was contacted and had a 30 minute phone screen with the founder. About a week after that call, an HR rep reached out and said they wanted to move forward with the interview process. I was given a design challenge to create a version 2 of their product with several added features and present it to the team. This is a huge assignment, but I worked on it for several days then presented my work to ~8 people on the design and engineering teams (in addition to the founder). One person remarked that he would've wanted me to go more in depth with the design, which was shocking for a design challenge in my opinion. I sent a thank you email and the founder responded they would be in touch soon. I have sent follow-up emails to both the founder and the HR rep but was never contacted again. After completing such an elaborate design challenge and clearly dedicating significant time to the interview, I am disappointed with their lack of communication and respect. I essentially created free designs for the company to use.
