      Associate Manager Interview

      Aug 15, 2011
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Big Lots (New York, NY) in Jul 2011

      Interview

The interview stemmed from a property destruction situation that had occurred in the store where they refused to take responsibility for. My voiced frustration lead me to getting what I believe was a b.s. interview to sooth me over for a little while. A formidable tactic but duly noted. I was given less than 2 days to prepare, even though the process was laughable. The interview itself was short, mostly prepared questions by the company with no attempt at getting to know the character of a person. Some laughable questions consisted of "If you had 6 months to live what would you do?," and what my dream car was. Nothing really about family, friends, or any background knowledge of my lifestyle. What still sticks in my head is being told, "you know the phrase we own you?, that's what will happen." Really makes someone want to work for such a company right? As I said, it was laughable. I expect very little from it and will continue down my road of frustration and uncertainty. On a final note, I was not asked to ask any questions. Not one. Pretty unprofessional as far as I'm concerned. Who wants to work for someone that doesn't want to answer a possible co-workers inquires? What a shame.

      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Big Lots in Jun 2013

      Interview

I was offered the interview because someone I know knew I was looking for a job and they told me to just come in when the store opened. I showed up 10 minutes early, was quickly shown around the store and then told to fill out an application. After I finished I went into the back room for the actual interview with the Manager & Assistant Manager. The interview was pretty lax and very easy.
