      Assistant Store Manager Interview

      Jun 26, 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Big Lots in Mar 2011

      Interview

Initial interview was over the phone with the corporate management recruiter. This was basic and had some formal structure. Took 15 minutes and was easy for anyone who has experience in retail to ace. Step two was with the district manager who basically talked the entire time. There was no structure and no notes taken. Neither interview was very informative about the job. Overall the second interview was very misleading. One statement made was you come in direct your people then you go home. Nothing was mentioned that you would be one of only three people in the building at any given time. The culture of the company seemed to be turn and burn. Hire them, burn them out, turn them over, and look for more. Finally the office was tattered and dirty, peeling paint and very dirty floors.

      Interview

Simple, almost like a conversation so it should be pretty easy if you just talk normally. The manger made it pretty relaxed, described the job and the tasks the we would do etc.

      Interview

It was pretty straight forward. I applied online, then a recruiter called and interviewed me. They asked basic interview questions such as; what would I do in a particular situation and what was my weakest area. I was then called in and interviewed by the DM. The recuriter called again and offered me a position.
